- Thread-topic: [Fed-Talk] Iphone 5 is a Fizzle with no Sizzle
My son (age 20) is a computer nerd and CS major at Arizona U. he's had
macs all his life (when he was born, I was working at Apple in Cupertino
:-). Like many, he experimented in high school and now in college. In his
case this means he's running Linux, Windows, Mac, and using an Android
phone.
He has built a monster tower system himself for his desktop. On it he
runs:...
For gaming, Windows is needed.
For getting his CS work done, Linux is needed.
For his phone, he chose Android, mainly so he could hack into it, and he
doesn't believe in paying Apple to develop software. Every time he sees my
iPhone he marvels how smooth the scrolling it, or how efficient and
consistent it is. He also likes that he can customize his Android to his
little heart's delight.
For his laptop he's tried a number of WinTel devices, but last winter
break he say something I will never forget as he was researching a
replacement for his i7 quadcore lenovo that is just to big for him. As he
struggled comparing prices, features, and to my surprise, aesthetics, he
finally settled on a MacBook Air. His reasoning? And I quote here:
"You'd have to be an idiot to get a Mac. But you'd have to be an idiot not
to get a Mac!"
OK, so how does thta help you iPhone vs Android decision? If you are used
to the elegant, thoughtful, and easy to use Mac or iOS operating systems,
you may find the Android (like Windows) will get the job done, but it will
not be a pleasure to use.
To paraphrase, "Once you go Mac, you never go back!"
On a side note, Ryan needed to convert a huge project to C. After Ryan
learned Objective C (on linux), he feels Objective C is the best
programming language he's ever used.
