Wayne,
The latest Apple computers run OS X 10.8. DISA has not published, and will not publish, a STIG checklist for 10.8. DISA FSO guidance is to use the 10.6 checklist and then apply best business practices. I've had no luck getting this done so far in my DoD environment, but I will get it done. But in an AF environment I suspect you will be told no, in no uncertain terms. This is simply because they don't have the expertise and time to STIG the new OS version.
We use a lot of Macs in the Defense Media Activity, but we have local control over approval, etc.
I hope that helps.
Paul Robinson, CISSP

Subject: [Fed-Talk] Question on Mac approval
Can someone point me to guidance on whether or not Macs are approved for USAF usage on the base networks? Can Macs be purchased through AFWAY?
Thanks,
Wayne
