[Fed-Talk] PKard Reader & iOS 10

  • Subject: [Fed-Talk] PKard Reader & iOS 10

In an attempt to get this to the Federal Users that use Thursby’s PKard Reader hardware, I want to share this information.  We've sent this to the users that we could reach directly, and we’re now reaching out using indirect methods in hopes of preventing some headaches.

iOS 10 WARNING

You are receiving this email because you have purchased a TSS-PK7 PKard Reader with Lightning Connector. Please be advised that Apple has a bug in iOS 10 that keeps this reader from working on an iPhone.

WE ADVISE THAT YOU DO NOT UPDATE TO iOS 10 UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.

The symptom is that the phone cannot see the reader. This appears to only happen with the PK7 lightning dongle readers on the iPhone and none of our other readers, including our latest iPhone 6 case reader. It also does not appear on the iPad or in any prior release of iOS.

During the beta cycle this bug was promptly reported to Apple, but it appears that tight scheduling prevented a fix to get into the initial release of iOS 10. From past experience we expect that Apple will fix this in some future update of the OS. For those who cannot wait on an Apple fix, we expect to be able to provide an application within the next couple of weeks that can update the firmware of the reader from a PC

I deeply apologize for this issue and any inconvenience it may cause. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us at +1(817) 478-5070 or email@hidden with any questions or concerns you may have.

Sincerely,

Carl Ketterling
Director of Technical Support
