  • Thread-topic: reinitialize smart card reader?

Sometimes I see the same thing – and un-plugging/plugging reconnects to the VM – when that happens I disconnect the removable device from the VM and it connects to the host. Other times, I get the “connect to mac or windows” prompt and I can then connect it where I desire.

Subject: [Fed-Talk] reinitialize smart card reader?

Hello,

I discovered that when I use VMWare Fusion, capturethe USB SmartCard reader for use in a Windows VM, then release the USB SmartCard reader, the mac sometimes (often) will no longer see that reader and it cannot be used. Unplugging/plugging in the reader doesn’t help.

The install notes say: Therefore the PCSC daemon tries to initialize the plugged-in device with an already loaded driver, which causes failures and the shutdown of the daemon. Restarting the PCSC daemon or reconnecting the card reader device re-initializes its resources and the devices availability.

I wondering if reinitialize this process would help, but I cannot figure out which process it is. Any ideas of what to restart to get the card reader to work again?
