TIC rules say you're supposed to only allow a network connection from GFE.
Some agencies have accepted the risk of allowing a network connection from
collaborator systems that pass a posture check.

Not sure about build-in support or other CAC enablers.  FWIW, Openconnect also
works if you're using passwords, and is sometimes more stable with flaky
connections, but I'm not sure about CAC support.
