Ken,
Impressive bit of digging to understand where the bug is. We found that we
could get Teams (as well as the other Office 2019 apps like Word, Excel,
PowerPoint, and OneDrive) to log into MS365 using a CAC by setting an Identity
Preference for the domain "*.deas.mil". Though for Teams specifically, we had
to downgrade to Teams 1.3 from
https://statics.teams.cdn.office.net/production-osx/1.3.00.24758/Teams_osx.pkg
then log in with that version. Once that was done, we could upgrade to the
current version of Teams and it would still work.
Agree it would be nice if Microsoft would fix their apps.

If you (a) use a Mac, (b) are at an organization which uses Microsoft Teams
for collaboration, (c) your organization requires the use of a CAC or
PIV card for authentication to Teams, and (d) you would like to use the
MacOS X desktop Teams app but cannot because it does not support CAC
authentication, you _may_ be interested in this:

I have received reports from some co-workers that it works for them; I've
also received reports that it does _not_ work for some people, and right
now it is hard for me to figure out exactly what is going wrong for
those people. So it _may_ work for you; it also may not.
I would STRONGLY ENCOURAGE anyone who is interested in this to read the
documentation on the above page VERY CAREFULLY so that you understand
exactly what is going on.
If you tried this out and it works for you, great! If you tried it
out and it did not work for you, well ... I might be interested in the
error message, but I suspect I won't be able to help you. Sometimes
quitting CAC4TEAMS and restarting helps.
Polite feedback is welcome.
