I manage a lab of computers and have been banging my head on problems
mounting stuff. At first it was DVD's. Now it is firewire hard
disks. Basically I have a set of working machines and a set of
machines that quit working after the 10.4.8 update.
The differences I can see is that on the working machines, launchd
wakes for a few seconds and does something, diskarbitrationd wakes
for a few seconds and does something, and then they mount. When it
doesn't work, well, nothing happens. I'm not sure if this is a kext
problem or something else. Working machines have more kext's loaded
and ioreg reflects the new devices, and non-working is just silent,
with no changes after plugging in a drive.
Can anyone point me to what I should be looking for, or if I need to
read docs about how all the nitty gritty kernel mounting details,
point me to them?
