GPT partition index problems

When I create a helper partition on a gpt formatted disk it needs to have an index one greater than the partition it will help boot. If I am doing this on a volume with multiple partitions, the need index may be in use. I have noticed that diskutil resizeVolume has a side effect where it reindexes the gpt partitions so I was wondering if there is a command line tool that will just reindex the partitions? Info related to both Leopard and Tiger would be appreciated.
