How does Finder store window state on remote volumes?

  • Subject: How does Finder store window state on remote volumes?

I have a home directory on a Linux server shared via Samba (this is temporary; they're moving it to NFS). One thing I notice is that every time I mount it locally, the Finder window toolbar is active, and even though I always hide it, next time it's mounted, it comes back.

I thought this kind of state was stored in .DS_Store files, and I see that they're being written, but the state is not persisting.

I've noticed many other problems using Samba shares, so I wouldn't be surprised if it's something about Samba causing this issue, but I'm hoping to find some confirmation.

TIA,
--
Rick
