Alas no. The lack of documentation has been a
problem since we introduced proper VFS KPIs in
Mac OS X 10.4; however, it has never bubbled to
the front of our DevPubs group's queue

The best place to get started is DTS Q&A 1242 "Developing for VFS".

This links to a couple of sample VFS plug-ins
that are a /lot/ easier to understand than the
production VFS plug-ins that you're currently
looking at.
