Do you use ZFS? Have you tried pushing an SSD or other highspeed device into
the pool as a caching device to see how that works?

Sadly, none of the general-purpose DB systems available can handle the
massive (TB+) data stores that my application manipulates with the
speed, efficiency, or data integrity required--so I had to write my own.
