NSURL getResourceValue fails

This NSURL getResourceValue stuff has never worked and still no updates from Apple.  Unfortunately I converted most of my code over to it.

URL: file://localhost/Volumes/ftp.ftpwt.com/matéo/

Trying to use that URL to get info on a mounted FTP volume, but I get

2010-10-12 17:19:44.458 Path Finder[94321:9f03] resourceForKey:, key: NSURLNameKey, error: Error Domain=NSCocoaErrorDomain Code=260 UserInfo=0x126e5a6b0 "The file “matéo” couldn’t be opened because there is no such file." Underlying Error=(Error Domain=NSPOSIXErrorDomain Code=2 UserInfo=0x126e5a420 "The operation couldn’t be completed. No such file or directory")

Anyone know how to get this working short of ripping it all out and going back to FSRefs?
