FileVault 2 encryption is done by Core Storage (currently), and Core Storage has no proper API [1]. As a third-party developer your only access to Core Storage is the `coreStorage` command in `diskutil`. The `unlockVolume` command looks promising but I’ve not tried it myself.

[1] I suspect, but have no checked, that Disk Utility is using SPI for this.
