Hi, hopefully this question belongs to this list…
When downloading a file, Finder shows a small progress indicator, showing
operation progress. Also, if an attempt is made to e.g. copy such file with
Finder, the copy operation stays in the “preparing to copy” stage until the
file is downloaded and is then copied. I wonder what file metadata/flags/xattrs
are used to signal that file is being in use and to report download progress? I
guess something on a file is set, since even 3rd party applications can make
Finder show progress indicator, for example downloading a file from a FTP
server using Transmit application.
I tried inspecting those files while they were being downloaded, but I haven’t
seen any specific metadata/flags/xattrs, which would provide such information.
I know in some cases Finder marks files as “busy” by using combination of type
code ‘brok’ and creator code ‘MACS’ but not in the case of files being
downloaded.
Thanks,
-- Dragan
