| We have modified the LL-HLS rules a bit to make life more straightforward for vendors doing server-side ad insertion. The interesting parts of the update are:
- INDEPENDENT=YES: Indicates that the
Partial Segment contains an independent frame. It is strongly recommended
that such Partial Segments carry this attribute. This increases the
efficiency with which clients can join and switch Renditions.
… When
processing a request specified by an EXT-X-PRELOAD-HINT tag with TYPE=PART, the
server must transmit only the range containing the Partial Segment that follows
the last EXT-X-PART tag in the Playlist. It must not transmit any range of the
Partial Segment until the entire Partial Segment is available to be transmitted
at the full speed of the link to the client. This enables the client to perform
accurate Adaptive Bit Rate (ABR) measurements.
… Each Parent Segment in a Media Playlist
that contains EXT-X-PART tags must contain at least one independent frame.
