Dear List,
Please forgive me, since I failed to find a better list to cry
for help.
I’m developing an application which is targeted to Mac
OS 10.2 (Jaguar). I was happy with the cross-develop feature offered by my current
development toolkit (iMac G5 + Tiger + XCode 2.2 + SDK10.2.8), but now I hope to
begin the unit test in a real Jaguar environment.
From ADC website, I could find and download Jaguar development
build. But my iMac G5 refused to boot and install it. I’m sure that my
iMac is in proper condition because it can boot from the original Panther CD as
well as the retail Tiger CD. I’ve tested with at least four different
copies of Jaguar CD, none of them works on my iMac G5. Does it mean that iMac
is not backward compatible?
As some PC developers suggested, I’ve also tested with
PearPC (a VMWare equivalent emulator). It was great, but due to its limitation in
speed and missing of sound support, it could not be an ideal test platform for
me.
Since this a common issue in software test, I would like to
know how developers here test your applications that is targeted to an older OS
version? Do you always keep an old Macintosh computer for testing purpose? If
so, may I know which Macintosh model (G3, G4?) would be the best for running major
releases of Jaguar (Mac OS 10.2.0 ~ 10.2.8)?
Thank you very much in advance!
