It's used for the Aperture 1.5 DVD Installer.

<key>IFPkgFlagAltSourceLocation</key>
<string>../../Sample Projects/</string>
...
<key>IFPkgFlagDefaultLocation</key>
<string>/Library/Application Support/Aperture/Sample Projects/</string>

So it's supposed to work.
