No progress during large decompression?

| I have a simple .pkg installer that installs about 4GB of data. The installer progresses fairly quickly up to about 95% complete. Then it hangs out there for a good 5 minutes. The log says "Extracting files". So I assume this is it simply unarchiving the rather large Archive.pax.gz file. The problem is that most users are going to think the installer has frozen. In fact, I did myself. Is this normal that the progress bar doesn't get updated while unarchiving? I can't easily break this package into smaller ones.
