Greetings from Vancouver,
Background info:
Our QuickTime component is currently distributed with a helper
background application embedded in the component's Resources folder.
The purpose of the app is to provide info to the system about a file
type that QuickTime Player doesn't know about, an icon for the file
type, and forward double-clicks on our files to QTP. When we claim the
file type this way we get QuickLook previews in Leopard for free. The
lowest system supported is 10.4.
Our problem is on Leopard. We want to work around the fact that when
an application is first run, the user gets a dialog (quarantine?)
asking for confirmation that running the app is ok. That's because the
QL Preview things don't work as expected unless the application has
already been run. That is, the user has to restart from the installer,
launch the app by double-clicking one of our files, suffer through
"first run", and then restart again.
§
So my question is can we launch the app from our installer package
when it is run so as to dispense with the "first run" dialog PITA
during the installation process?
BTW, I'm using Xcode 3.0/ 10.5.3. I haven't used PackageMaker.app
since about 10.3. I like the new interface design but the app seems to
have a few problems retaining my settings and crashed a few times. Are
there any known issues you can clue me in on?
TIA for any tips.
Philip Aker
