Thinking ahead here: If I have an installer set to install an application into /Applications, where does that go on a French/ Spanish/German localized machine? Do I have to localize the install location in my installer somehow, and if so, how is this done?

You don't have to care about this. Common Folders are only visually localized. The real path is the same across all localizations and is the English one.
