I have recently upgraded to Packagemaker 3.0. Previously I had

package? Or does it have to be within the package?
I would tend to believe it needs to be within a package because when
PackageMaker needs to run a preinstall or postinstall scripts (the
equivalent of a preflight and postflight script for Flat packages),
it includes additional virtual packages.
The distribution script format does not include keys for preinstall
or postinstall scripts AFAIK.
