Is there a way to make Installer.app more verbose?

Installer.app is complaining that the Source media I am installing is corrupted.

OK but it's correctly seen by Pacifist and it can be extracted from Pacifist.

It fails with the following output:

BOMFatalError - cpio read error: bad file format

The bom file can be read by lsbom and the list of files is correctly displayed by Installer.app if it asked to show them.

I also tried installing with installer. Same problem.

So is there a way to make Installer.app be a little more helpful on the origin of the issue?
