Yes, you can create the same experience, but you need to create a
Hybrid CD-ROM to do that.
You can either create two seperate partitions (if the data is no
larger than half your media size), or you can create a shared Hybrid
Disk.
I believe Toast supports shared Hybrid, but burning CD-ROMs is long
beyond me. Of course, it also supports non-shared hybrids.
If you create a non-shared Hybrid, you should cerate an HFS(+) dmg,
and lay it out the way you want it. Then combine it with an ISO-9660
Image, I think that hdiutil should be able to do this

I have created some HTML content that I need to distribute on CDROM.
The CDROM needs to work on Macs and PCs. In the root I have an
index.htm file and a folder that contains all of the contents. My
jacket instructions tell people they need to insert the CD-ROM, then
click on the index.htm file. Pretty boring.
I have noticed when downloading Mac .dmg files of applications over
the internet, that when the download completes, the .dmg is mounted
and automatically opened to reveal the installation screen. Often
times, this installation screen has the application icon and a
shortcut to the Application folder, usually with an arrow suggesting
to the user that they should drag the app icon to the Application
shortcut to install it. The better implementations have other
graphics, company logos and miscellaneous information, etc.
What I would like to know is if it's possible to create that same
type of experience for my CD-ROM content. Ideally, I'd like that
window to pop up as soon as the CD-ROM is inserted and mounted. I
know that Mac doesn't do "autorun" of an application, but I was
hoping it could at least automatically open a default folder -- a
folder that with rich graphical content and layout alongside the
icon to launch the default HTM file.
I hope my description makes sense. I would REALLY appreciate any
assistance you can offer.
Thanks!!
