Hi Guys,
Wasn't there an app a few years ago called "Renew" that was a software
update type application for 3rd party apps? I forgot the guys name who
wrote it, but IIRC he had a database of apps, versions, it checked
your receipts for what you had installed and then provided an update
as they were available. Example BBEdit or something. I thought it did
automatic uninstall as well.
Does anybody remember?

That's not as big a problem unless the app installs more stuff
outside its own bundle/directory on first run. If it's self-
contained, then removal is a simple delete of the app bundle/
directory.

The second alternative is the way to go if we ever want to have
uninstall capabilities in the future.
A generic uninstaller could use receipt info to figure out what to
remove. A generic uninstaller could not "rewind" a post-install
or post-upgrade script.
Alas, I think we may never see robust uninstall on OS X, because
it would require changes from Apple _and_ from all package
developers.
Actually, it would first require preventing installation by drag
and drop.
