Let me clarify: There were improvements to this in 10.6: you can
specify a time duration a script is expected to take.
Prior to 10.6, nothing can be done.

I have another "cosmetic" type question - during installation, is
there any way *not* to display the "Install time remaining". I have
a script that takes a while. While it's running the script, it says
"Install time remaining: 1 minute", but it actually takes alot
longer than that...
Thanks,
Andrew

Does anyone know if it is possible to make the default screen
presented in the Installer any wider? Specifically, in the
Custom Install screen, I would like the Package Name column to be
wider, without the user having to adjust the widths of the
columns. So if there was a way to specify the width of the
column, or make the entire screen wider, either of those
solutions would work.
No, there isn't.
Also, does anyone know a trick to have it display a specific size
of the install rather than having the installer determine the
size automatically. For example, if a user installs the program,
then deletes it, and then reinstalls later, it is still listed as
an "upgrade" with "size 0". Of course if I delete the receipt
after installation it would act as a fresh install next time, but
I have previously been advised not to use a script to delete
receipts.
The size calculations use receipts to decide, in interests of
speed. Obviously, receipts often do not represent the actual state
of the disk, so, alas, this calculation can easily be wrong.
