I'm in need of some guidance to re-write a wrong. The installation of Open XML File Format Converter for Mac 1.1.3.mpkg causes the ownership of the Applications folder to change from root:admin to what appears to be user:staff. If you view the permissions as root, they show up as _unknown:_unknown. The previous version of Open XML Converter 1.1.0 also causes this problem. The version prior to that was 1.0.2 and did not cause the issue. Running repair permissions after installing 1.1.0 reset the ownership to root:admin. Installing 1.1.3 six months later once again set ownership to _unknown:_unknown, but running repair permissions had no effect. Manually setting ownership to root:admin and then running repair permissions reported that:
User differs on "Applications", should be 99, user is 0
Group differs on "Applications", should be 99, group is 80
which I find hard to believe.
Two questions. Where does the system read the ownership of the Applications folder and was it really necessary for the package to change those permissions? OK maybe three. Is there any other program that does this?
