to get the target set to the current user's desktop for an installation? I have
an installer where the client wants the user to be able to choose the path, but
the path to default to the desktop.
I insist that the user to install to /Applications
(which is not as easy as it sounds, on Snow Leopard) and put a symlink on the
desktop in my postinstall script. I then politely apologise for being so
forward and invite the user to drag things around to suit
themselves.
I don't know if there's any way for the postinstall script
to know where the user installed to if she is allowed to choose. If there
is, I'd like to know about it. But beware allowing relocation in any
case. If there is more than one copy of the app installed for any reason
(including one that has been dragged to the Trash), the Installer picks one at
random and updates it. This can result in much confusion for the user (not to
mention the developer!).
