You could always put the archive into an app bundle and have it extract it. Or run an imbedded installer silently.

There's also LanREV, LanDESK, Altiris, FileWave, RadMind, Casper....etc....
LanREV and Casper both offer self-help portals, where users can pick whatever is made available to them. The install runs with admin rights. Available pkgs can be managed via scoping to AD (or OD) groups...
