Alternative installation locations
Alternative installation locations

I am using packagemaker 3.0.3 to build an installer. I need to
install a folder and a font.
Users of my installer may not have admin privileges. If they do not,
I would like them to be able to install our folder into their home
folder (~), and the font into into their ~/Library/Fonts folder.
Otherwise, we should install into /Applications and /Library/Fonts
respectively.
I am having two problems, perhaps because of my naivete concerning
PM. The first concerns permissions:
I can set up PM to allow installation "for all users" or "just this
user", which sounds like what I want. But I can find no way of
specifying that the admin password will be required in one case, and
not in the other.
If I specify "require admin password", then a user with no admin
privileges is prompted for admin privileges even if they are
installing into their home directory (and so can't install). On the
other hand, if I do not "require admin password", then the
installation fails ungracefully if the user tries to install in the
system directory.
The second problem is that when I install into the users home
directory, the font file is placed in their home directory, rather
then respecting the Library/Fonts path.
Does anyone have any advice on these questions? It seems like these
ought to be common things to want to do.
