Sounds perfectly possible to me but you have the usual caveats regarding modifying a particular user's environment. What do you do about other users on the system, users that are added later etc etc.
Can you give anymore details on what it is you're doing? Can you not edit this plist (what plist is it?) when the app/whatever is first launched?
