I don't think it's a good idea to change the identifier. It will only give you problems in the long run.
One solution might be to copy the config file somewhere else from your preinstall script and restore it to original location from your postinstall script.

I am starting to use Packages, which does look better and way less buggy then PackageMaker. I had run into some problem creating "updater" installer.
Lets say, installer put the following files into folder
/Library/Application Support/DummySupport/
libdummy.dylib
dummy.config
I am building updater installer which should update only "libdummy.dilyb" but leave "libdummy.config" intact - not including it into source.
As the result, the "config" file is removed.
I had found a workaround - in the Package Settings, change the package indentifier of the updater. Is it the valid approach or I should do something else?
