After many hours of struggle, it seems I had a wrong key name in the plist (something like LSHandler instead of CFBundleTypeRole). The installer gave no warning, just ignored my .app. :( The only hint was a warning when I ran my .app.

It is working for me now, carry on.

I have a .pkg which contains a directory with a few files, one of which is a .app file. After installation, everything is extracted except the .app file. I have verified (using Pacifist) that the .pkg does contain my .app file. I don't understand why it wouldn't be extracted? I am really at a loss, any help is appreciated.

Thanks!
-Nate
