I'll have to see how well they accept the numeric form, as well as the named form. - try to connect to smb://[::1] with the Finder. This does not give the normal error of trying to connect to local server. - try to connect to ftp://[::1] with the Finder. This does not give the normal error of trying to connect to local server. The command line ftp client works with no issues. - Finder accepts afp://[::1], but displays it as afp://::1/ in the error message. - Safari no handling link local IPv6 address properly, for example: http://[fe80::230:65ff:fed6:b164%25en0]/ , yet I can access the server with its IPv4 address: http://192.168.2.101/ - MacOS X's Network Utility can't handle IPv6, even for pings - Panic's Transmit does not support IPv6 (have contacted developers) This email sent to site_archiver(a)lists.apple.com

There were two issues, were the first is a potential problem for everyone that could have working ipv4 but not v6 to their password server (which is in many, to not say the most, places on the internet) and therefore is an obvious bug, which you btw say is fixed now, and the other is just a single example of a piece of software that lagged ipv6 support, which incidentally is the kind of software that is made and used for destroying connectivity, not for supporting it. There are a zillion things that Just Work and does so well, on most OSes. Where did those go in that trend analysis? Well, I think it is very uncommon to turn it off, and those machines still work for people. I'd recommend not to turn it off. Maybe your turning it off is why you fell that it doesn't work? Testing with glxgears confirms that MesaGL is performing about twice as fast as on a comparable 32-bit CPU, although some other tasks are clearly not yet optimized. The machines are otherwise roughly identical. If anyone can think of other interesting benchmarks, be sure and let me know while I have access to this Opteron machine. BTW, Pymol rocks on the thing. Moreover, I would encourage the development of alternative drivers, and the porting of the drivers from Darwin-7.2, which is free and open source software to Darwin-8, which is not. That would fix the problem. If you are aware of such FOSS drivers, which are already in existence, please alert me so that they can be included in The GNU-Darwin Distribution. We are especially in need of ethernet card drivers and SATA drivers. Together, we can make Darwin a 100% free software platform for the duration.
