Are you using a meta package? Can you send me the Info.plists from the two packages and the names of these packages? There is a bug in 10.4 where the reason for not being able to install doesn't percolate up to the top and display in the Target Select panel. Either way, the installer has decided your package can't be installed and will not let you further. My installer fails to upgrade modules on Tiger (10.4.3). (No problem on Panther.) It turns out, it does work! The critical part that I missed was in the Path Mappings topic where it says, "these paths should correspond to the relative paths output by the lsbom tool." Using the lsbom tool on my installer package showed that my paths were of the form ./Contents/Resources/Animations/K2PluginSupport.sfxplugin…. So, I restructured the package contents so that the bom contained my items in the full path ./Applications/iWork/Keynote.app/Contents/ Resources/Animations/K2PluginSupport.sfxplugin…, and then everything worked as expected. Based on all this, I don't think it's actually necessary to reconstruct a full path in the package contents, but you can get away with "stand-ins" for all the applications or location you want the installer to find and fill in dynamically. UserLocation is used for a different scenario according to the documentation. Try something like Keynote instead of UserLocation in both the TokenDefinitions.plist and the IFPkgPathMappings. This kind of search path has always worked for me AFIAK (sometimes too well since on a few occasions I had to search where the application was located). I've been reading the Software Distribution doc on ADC and searching through this mailing list, but I can't seem to figure out how to locate an application so that I can install a plugin. I've added a TokenDefinitions.plist file in the installer package's Resources directory with the following: In the package's Info.plist, I added an IFPkgPathMappingKey as follows: But, Installer doesn't find Keynote and just installs into / Applications/iWork/Keynote.app whether that path exists or not. packagemaker fails for some packages

When I use PackageMaker to build the projects, every one of them works; I get a package that can install. The only concern is that for some of them, I get this message in the console.log: : for architecture i386 object: <myFile> malformed object (unknown flavor for flavor number 0 in LC_UNIXTHREAD command 17 can't byte swap it) My files are Universal, I'm using Mac OS X 10.4.3 and PackageMaker 2.1. Anyway, what I'd like to do is to use packagemaker to script the building of these packages. When I do: packagemaker -build -proj myProj.pmproj -p myProj.pkg -v I get the following message: The package could not be created because of the following errors: Unfortunately, there are no errors listed :-( BTW: this only happens for SOME of my projects. Some of the ones with Universal Binaries work file... some with plain text files fail Any idea what the heck is going on and what I can do to get scripting to work with packagemaker??? I have even submitted a question to Apple dev support and they say that there is a bug so I submitted a bug report. Still no answer.
