You can bring markers in via XML. Having finally got the XML out of Filemaker to link perfectly with the original media in FCP (thanks everybody for your help) I'm now trying to do something similar. I want to take the Filemaker XML and change that into FCS annotations so producers can navigate to scenes and view the proxies on laptops. is there an easy way to do this? Does FCS accept XML or any other third party logging references? Just a note here to say we have about 500 items logged per two hour quicktime. A workaround I thought would achieve this was to export the XML from Filemaker into FCP and relink as normal, then make subclips of all the clips and then get FCS to make thumbnails of all the subclips from the uploaded FCP project. This should work, but I think you have to have the original media in the FCP browser window to make a subclip, so it is a bit longwinded! The last theme looks to be using one of the curtains from Motion, and since this is a Keynote theme, it's fairly easy to just pull out the movie and use it elsewhere. Is this legal? My understanding is that the content in FCS is all royalty free. If he's refering to any of that there are no issues in including it in commercial content. Marker question

This works fine so far. Replacing (or adding) the sequence in the FCP project works fine as well. So what I got is an updated sequence where the video track got markers and the audio tracks don't. >From there I manually created a new bin and dragged the clips from the timeline to the bin. What happens is: now all tracks got the markers. I normally don't work this way at least with markers, so I haven't seen that before. This email sent to site_archiver(a)lists.apple.com

Many of the FxPlugs simply disappear and many fail to render. Only one gfx card will work. More than one is FxPlug death. this list is more for programming questions than user problems; the FCP discussion forums on apple.com are probably a better place for this type of question. Having said that, you may be hitting a problem I recently became aware of, where GPU FxPlugs fail in Final Cut if multiple graphics cards are installed. It's also the case that if you have multiple displays attached to a single graphics card, we have less video memory available to process our effects, so you might see this problem if you are working with large frame sizes and/or high precision. It can be frustrating, since it sounds like you were able to render these effects on an older machine, but the system uses some more resources to draw your expansive desktop. I am assuming you are using Final Cut. Is that so? Do the same effects work on the same clips in Motion? What format is your sequence? Are you using high precision rendering? So I have a new mac pro with an NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT, but every time I go to render a clip that has vignette or Luma key applied "I get a failed to render error." Well I had three displays attached to my machine... I removed the one card, I believe it was also a NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT, and the same problem accord... I removed my second display and now all is happy. I've become rather spoiled and like using three displays... Has anyone found a solution that work s for them? Well I had three displays attached to my machine... I removed the one card, I believe it was also a NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT, and the same problem accord... I removed my second display and now all is happy. I've become rather spoiled and like using three displays... Has anyone found a solution that work s for them? When you alter the editing timebase (away from NTSC) in FCP, the timecode in the UI is updated, but something internally is not set correctly. When you export that sequence the old timecode (i.e. drop-frame) is exported in the XML. When FCP reimports that XML it changes the timecode to NDF and uses the frame number to make new timecode values. If you create a sequence at 60 (using a preset) the problem never occurs If you change the timecode to NDF before altering the editing timebase the problem does not occur. The problem only occurs when you are using DF timecode and you switch the editing timebase from 29.97 to 30 or from 59.94 to 60 the proect that you sent does indeed contain a sequence that behaves the way you describe: You can't change it from dropframe to DF in the sequence settings, but the exported XML has is be dropframe anyways, and incorrectly so. Maybe I misunderstood your comment, but if I create a project which is not NTSC then there can't be a DF timecode. In so far the FCP behaviour is totally correct! The weird thing is that the original exported FCP XMLs say it's not NTSC but DF timecode, which is not possible at all. Re-importing this virgin FCP XML does make a NTSC DF sequence out of it.
