Still having trouble with PAP

I am not able to really use PAP the way it is intended using the code supplied by callAt.c. Here are the problems I am able to send as many messages as I like to the printer but then at the end of the message sending I'm getting an "ATPsndreq: Timed out" error and in general it crashes soon afterward in I think the dequeue. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong here this code seems to work as stand alone so I know it's something I am doing but I can't figure it out, the code I have is cut and paste from callAT.c . Anyone have any ideas what is going on and how I might fix it?
