gethostbyname intermittently buggy?

Is anyone having intermittent bugs with gethostbyname? I'm calling it thru
a function pointer in a CarbonLib/CFM application. For certain server
addresses, it seems to throw an exception or something, I can't really tell
because my code sort of just jumps out of there to some other place (bizarre
description I know, but this is from an MPTask. With certain servers, it
works, and with others it doesn't. I am baffled.
