Some VPN clients I've seen do exactly that, and that's the only solution I
know of that would work on Darwin.

One important thing though: when you change resolv.conf, please make sure
to create a resolv.conf.backup or similar. Nothing is more frustrating that
having your VPN client crash and leave your resolv.conf pointing to the
wrong name servers, with no record of what your original name servers were.
If the backup file is there, I can just replace resolv.conf with it.
