Your 10.0 addresses could be assigned locally on the host rather than
through DNS and that might work.

Mapping host names to IP addresses is a much bigger can of worms but to make sure everyone is on the same page... When you have multiple network services configured on Mac OS X your DNS configuration tracks the primary interface (the active service at the top of the list).
