Scratch the second part of that mail; I'd buggered up some run loop code. NSConnection was releasing my port when it itself was released, by the autorelease pool at the end of the thread, after 'run' on the NSRunLoop fell through.

The first part still stands though - anyone here with experience implementing subclasses of NSPort?
