The Memory Manager is *not* 'interrupt safe' (ie thread safe, because
interrupts execute in a thread context), even on Mac OS X. At a
minimum, calling things PtrAndHand can clobber MemErr, which will
mightily confuse your main thread's error checking. Worse yet, the
Memory Manager algorithms are not thread safe.
As with traditional Mac OS, Memory Manager calls often work from
interrupt time but this does not mean that they're safe.
