So, I'm putting together some stuff for a DSL router flash memory updater. While sniffing around for OS 9 stuff I have been picking away and the OS X side. I found an easy solution -- or so I thought. I thought I could make a pared down inetd.conf that only listened for tftp and bootp and give them my special config files. Works like a charm as root.

So, I thought I could use the self repairing authenticated tool trick to pre-authorize and then execl inetd. It launches inetd but it runs as a normal user and can't bind to the ports I need.

I know there are security issues but can I make this work or do I need to hack my tftpd and bootp code to take authorize byte blob? Or will that not work either ?

Matt
