To what address are you trying to connect -- one reachable via the
built-in Ethernet, or one reachable via the PPTP port?
Routing *should* be smart and automatic, so that only traffic for the
network you're connecting to via PPTP goes through PPTP, while traffic
to the rest of the world goes elsewhere -- if that's what's required
for traffic to get to the rest of the world. However, that hasn't been
my experience of (at least) PPTP this past few days. I have to
manually run pppd and use the route command to make everything work the
way it should.
