Newbie Question

Hi,
Can anyone offer advice on how to start developing a client - server application?
I am competant at writing code for applications and have enough understanding of open transport to be able to send emails etc over the network. (Current application does this under OS9, X etc).

So having picked up a copy of Unix Network Programming v1 edtion 2 what else is there to get started on this project? (OS X, C based only)

Any examples like the virtual client / server for open transport that runs under the OS X core foundation instead?

Like the title said, this is a newbie question, so be gentle please. :-)
Max.
