Admin: Bouncing Emails and Digest Mode

Greetings MacNetworkProg'ers

I'm the list admin for the MacNetworkProg mailing list. Admin'ing the list is a surprising amount of work. The biggest issue is list members whose email starts to bounce. When I get a bounce message I don't immediately unsubscribe the recipient because there are many transient errors in email. A server will go down, messages will bounce, and then someone notices and they fix it. So, I try to give bouncers about a week to fix their servers.

Recently I've instituted a policy to reduce the number of bounce messages I get. After a couple of bounce messages from the same recipient, I switch the recipient to digest mode. This reduces the number of emails they get, and hence the number of bounces that I get.

So, if you suddenly find yourself switched to digest mode, it's probably because your email was bouncing and I switched you over. You can switch yourself back using the mailing list admin interface.
