When did NSURLConnection start working with NSURLHandles?

I have a subclass of NSURLHandle that supports a certain URL scheme (say "x-test"). I just accidentally found out that if I try and create a NSURLConnection with a NSURLRequest that reference a URL with the same scheme the NSURLConnection will download via the NSURLHandle.

By debugging through the code I notice there's a private NSURLHandleProtocol class that is automatically doing the magic routing for me. Previously I had my own class that worked like NSURLHandleProtocol. When did Apple introduce this private class?

Jon.
