Thanks for your help on this. When I read your statement that the
1015 error was probably a launch services error, I realized what I did
wrong. I have a Panther and Jaguar partition on the same drive and I
was switching which system I use when I launch. When running on
Jaguar with a mounted Panther partition, there are occasional launch
services problems when it tries to launch the Panther version of
applications.
I unmounted the Panther partition and the ICEditPreferences call
worked fine on Jaguar, so I'll continue to use the IC code.
I will probably still log a bug about the use of the kICUseHTTPProxy
and not switching to the Proxy tab although I appreciate your
explanation about the difficulties.
