Hi I am writing an Internet Setup Assistant using the useful MoreSCF ,
I have manage to setup everything a need but I didn't find how to
set check box
in the Network Preferences in PPPoE tab "Show PPPoE status in menu bar".
It doesn't appears in /SystemConfiguration/preferences.xml also, I seems to
be global.
The same goes for "show modem status in menu bar" in the "PPP" tab
in "Dial Now"
There is no public API to directly control this; it's not stored in
System Configuration framework. This was brought up on the list a
while back (Oct 2002) and at that time I filed a bug requesting an
API <rdar://problem/3084366>; however, there's been no progress
towards getting one. I've updated the bug report to register your
interest.
There's a workaround if you just want to /show/ the items. To wit,
you can simple open the appropriate menu extra using Launch Services.
The SystemUIServer will pick up the launch and show the item.
However, there's no equivalent workaround for turning it off.
Other question is where is the apple mail preference(to setup a new account )
No idea.
and the safari preference(to set the homepage).
I 'am aware of the using applescript option but I prefer not using it.
Can I use the IC for that or have Apple kicked out it of the system :-(
I think you can still do this with Internet Config, but I'm not 100%
sure. I haven't tried it for a while. If IC does work, there's no
reason why you shouldn't use it. Also, feel free to file a bug
requesting a replacement API, seeing as IC is officially deprecated
an' all.
