Is Open Transport used for Mac X programming?

BSD sockets are the native networking API on Mac OS X. A subset of the high-level Open Transport API is also available via Carbon.

There are also other high-level layers on top of sockets provided by Mac OS X, such as CFSocket and NSStream (in Cocoa on Panther). What you use depends on your needs.
