Hi Alexey and All.

Thanks for that reference.Makes the picture a little clearer, but still muddy. It implies that there is only a problem with multiple MP threads. There is no clear explanation as to what can or can't be done. It would be nice it there was a release note on it or some detail from MW.

My app does very simple socket stuff (no MP threads), and I repeat I have never seen a crash. So, although this does seem to indicate "caution is required", I've still not seen anything that says don't use it. So if you don't use MP threads and want 'simple' socket stuff, use PP. Provides a nice simple layer that works on either OS9 or OSX.

Perhaps someone from MW is on this list and can clarify?

Andy.

If you could provide it that would be good. Having done a Google myself, I
can only find a single reference to a crash, which only states what the
person involved found.

A search like http://groups.google.com/groups?q=PowerPlant networking OS X crash&h l=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wg gives me more references.

It does not include any reference to what the problem
actually was. For all I know the bug might have been in his/her code. Unless
there is more info out there, there's nothing to suggest factually that PP
has a problem on OS9.

You can look at the old "Thread Class and Interrupts" technote from
Metrowerks (it's in Release Notes/PowerPlant/Old PP Release Notes/CWPro5). I
am not sure if these issues were ever fixed in released versions of
PowerPlant, although some potential fixes were suggested in the PowerPlant
newsgroup.

 This is an interesting reference:

Personally, I'd be very cautious if I had to use PowerPlant networking in
Carbon, let alone OS X. The last time I tried, even the server and client
sample projects didn't work correctly.
